Welcome to this local open data demonstrator!
Bear in mind that this site is very much work-in-progress, both as a concept, and in its technical development. Your ideas and input will be really helpful, so please post them in the ‘feedback and suggestions’ forum.
What we are trying to do here is show how data released by councils and other public bodies might be made useful and accessible to the public and other stakeholders.
The data displayed in the demonstrator comes from Lambeth Council (we have used some data relevant to Lambeths’s Food Strategy), as well as Department for Communities’ Indices of Multiple Deprivation data and some NHS-derived data.
The demonstrator at this stage has the following elements:
- map comparisons: these enable users to make visual comparisons of different base layers (comprising Indeces of Multiple Deprivation, child obesity, free school meals and land use data) and different overlay markers (location of food outlets, food projects and so on)
- map with charts: these show maps alongside a range of associated data presented in tables or pie charts
- map my data: this tool allows users to drop a pin on the Lambeth map and add some data about the facility they are locating. This tool could enable crowd-sourcing of data by residents and other stakeholders. As things are currently set up, these additions will then appear on the maps for all users.
- Forum: for discussion and feedback.
We will set up a Twitter account for the project and notify you of the details in here.
